Every ethical investor has their own journey. August Investments Pty. Ltd. began its journey more than 39 years ago, as one of the pioneers of ethical investing in Australia. We have paid dividends to shareholders since 1981. But time moves on and it has been decided to wind up the company in an orderly fashion over the next two years.
Our mission is to grow shareholders’ wealth by investing in green and ethical businesses.
August Investments favours companies that support the natural environment and a healthy society — and we endeavour to avoid companies that undermine them. Our ethical investment portfolio is skewed towards smaller, growing ASX listed companies, because fundamental underpricing is more common amongst smaller companies.
We are open to occasional venture capital investments, particularly when the business could have a transformational impact on the environment or society. An example is Australian Ethical Investments Limited, for which August Investments provided seed capital. We also support community projects such as Australia’s first community wind-farm, Hepburn Wind.
August Investments has historically invested about 60% in equities, with the remainder in a diverse range of investments, including property, forestry, term deposits and cash. Fund manager Damien Lynch has developed a unique investment methodology that combines environmental, social, technical and fundamental assessments of potential investments. He is the company’s largest shareholder.
Investments can be more than just a source of income — they can also foster feelings of security, community and pride. August Investments is committed to providing shareholders with more than just a reliable dividend stream — our shareholders have the comfort of knowing that every day, their capital is working for a better world.
Note: we are in no way related to organisations with the same or a similar name to “August Investments” in countries other than Australia.
